A good 'foundation' is the key to clever make-up
By 'foundation', I am referring to the base of your make-up. This includes
concealer, foundation, and powder.
When you're decorating a room, you don't just slap the new paint onto
the old without first scraping off the unwanted wallpaper, and cleaning
down the paintwork. You need a good base from which to apply the colours
that you have chosen - and this goes for make-up, too.
Cleanse, tone and moisturise your skin, then apply concealer, foundation,
and powder to create a smooth base - you can then apply all the colour
you want with blusher, eyeshadows and lipstick.
Understand the colouring of your skin tone:
Light
If you have an ivory or porcelain complexion, then your skin tone is
Light.
Light-Medium
If you have a rose beige, light olive, or ash brown complexion, then
your skin tone is Light-Medium.
Medium-Dark
If you have a yellow-beige, medium olive or rose-brown skin, then your
skin tone is Medium-Dark.
Dark
If you have a dark olive, bronze, rich beige or black complexion, then
your skin tone is Dark.
SUMMER / WINTER
You have cool skin tones, with a pink or blue undertone, and make-up
that echoes these tones will make you look healthy and alive. Avoid
honey-based cosmetics which could make you look yellow and extremely
unwell!
SPRING / AUTUMN
You have warm skin tones, with a golden or honey tone, and make-up that
echoes these tones will make you look healthy and alive. Avoid blue-based
cosmetics which could make you look rather grey and drawn!

- Ivory,
Ivory Beige, and Natural Beige foundations have a definite
warm tone to them
- Pink
Beige, Pink Blush, Rose Glaze and Winter Rose are for cooler
skin tones
Natural
foundation is a bit of an enigma. It looks great on its own on
a darker complexion and suits both warm and cool skins but, when
mixed with any of the other 7 shades, it adds a sparkle to your
face - especially good for party time. |

Liquid
concealer can be applied before or after your foundation. Opinion
amongst the so-called experts is divided so it's your choice,
really.
But
I would definitely recommend NOT using your fingertips for either
foundation or concealer - you will be transferring grease from
your fingers onto your face, which is probably the thing you
are most trying to avoid! Try using a corner of your foundation
sponge or an eyeshadow applicator instead. |

|
 |
Translucent
powder will 'set' your make-up; it will last longer and will
not add any colour to what's already there.
Apply
loose powder with a large brush. Pressed powder comes with its
own powder pad. |

I make no apologies for using the Moritz range of colour-coordinated
cosmetics to demonstrate how to select the correct shades for every type
of skin. I have been using them for around 25 years and every lady whose
make-up I have done with them has been extremely pleased. The names used
are a very good indication of the actual shade so it makes my job much
easier when I'm trying to explain how to pick a shade to suit your particular
skin tone.

Please beware though - not everyone uses such a clever naming convention.
Recently, I went for a complimentary make-up with a well-known cosmetic
house and they used a great foundation on me which matched my skin colour
perfectly. Unfortunately, it was called 'Natural Beige' which, to my
mind, conjures up images of warm, golden shades. My skin tone is just
about the coolest you'll find on the planet and I use Pink Blush from
the Moritz range as I am really pale and look like a ghost without make-up.
So, the last colour I would have picked out for myself from a range I
hadn't tried before would be called Natural Beige; I would expect that
shade to be honey based so would usually avoid it like the plague. The
trick is to try it on your skin, and be sure that it matches - whatever
it's called!
You can order online any
or all of these colour cosmetics direct from our suppliers and these
will be shipped directly to your home (UK and EU countries only).
