The Overall Mood
Winter 05/06 is a breakthrough season that sees non-conformist dressing
ideas such as mixing colours and patterns. Expect individual expression
of unusual colours and fabric textures and infinite possible combinations.
The New Dress Code
The most dramatic change in menswear will be the shift towards formal
suiting and structured garments. This year we will see the return of
the suit, a fashion phenomenon not seen since the 1980s. Tailored jackets
are the key item and the most effective way of updating a man's silhouette.
This summer's blue blazer with jeans continues into winter but with
a soft washed feel.
Colour
Compared to the riot of colour used this summer, the autumn palette will
be much more muted. Colour will be mixed in garment layering or through
the abundance of tweeds, checks and marls dominating many themes. Flannel
and traditional men's suiting cloths herald a return to grey ranging
from metallic tones of light steel through to charcoal. Brown continues
as an autumn staple, and we see peacock tones in velvet and loden greens
in tweed, damson, plum, and deep purple tones.

Boardroom
Out of the boardroom and onto the streets, the iconic suit has leaped
from the world of business into the mainstream. A surge in the market
for male grooming products and services, together with dressed up male
celebrities in the spotlight, has increased the interest in tailoring.
Key pieces include: mixing a patterned tie and shirt, V-neck sweaters,
slim ties, slim-fit cardigans, waistcoats, cigarette-slim pants, velvet
jackets, short raincoats and coats.
Boho County
Inspired by traditional British country life, styling is influenced by
equestrian and hunting sports and the 70s bohemian spirit for a personalised
fashion statement.
Key pieces include: the British hacking jacket, cardigan-style jackets,
sportswear layered with country tweeds, country check shirts, sleeveless
knitwear and chunky oversized sweaters.
Great Outdoors
Interest in the environment continues, as this look reflects the growing
interest in outdoor activities which challenge and test our traditional
comfort zone. Rugged fabrics which protect and shield from the harsh
elements will be used in abundance. Traditional tartans, big knits
and fur-lined hats and jackets are layered to reflect the individuality
of the wearer.
Key pieces include: lumberjack shirts and jackets, gilets, check linings,
shearling linings, duffle coats, and cable knitwear.
Neon
Focussing on the manmade world, this theme contrasts with the natural
handmade fabrics and styles. It draws influence from performance sportswear
and clashing colour.
Key pieces include: reversible garments in bonded fabrics, sport stripes,
polo and rugby shirts, mesh panels, skiwear, classic hooded sweatshirts
in grey marl with fluorescent zips and trims, tracksuit pants and jockey
bomber jackets.
