THE OVERALL MOOD
An
abundance of black, a smattering of beige, aggressive combative gear,
oversized coats and ultra thin suits create fascinating trends for men
this season.
Gone is the predominance of casual wear; instead we see formal clothing
with a relaxed twist, or protective clothing in dark smart colours. Tuxedo
detailing influences many of the looks, with the white bow-tie, the cummerbund,
satin piping and tails surfacing everywhere.
While the collections ranged widely, all the clothes are made of extremely
luxurious fabrics and careful deliberate construction.
Dressed-down dressing up is your mantra for Autumn Winter 2007.

* Fabrics are graded by quality. Many popular designers use fabrics
with a grade of 100s or 110s to cut costs and increase their mark-up.
A respectable suit should be made from any fabric above a grade of 110s.
The higher the grade, the better the quality and the higher the price!

FOUR KEY THEMES
full trends report with 8 key themes
in detail
Black
Entirely black outfits from the crown of the hat to the tip of the toe,
to suit every style preference and occasion, using matt fabrics, luxe
sportswear and the tuxedo side by side.
- Tailored trousers, paired with shirts, ties and neat knitwear
- Coats take centre stage
- The double breasted cut is back
Neutral
The must-have colour combination is beige and grey, ranging from creamy
vanilla to deepest caramel, worn with grey.
- Formal attire also in these light colours
- Suit jacket lengths are worn with either a shirt and skinny tie or
T-shirt and jumper
Slicker
than Slick
Svelte suits
- Tapering trousers, tapering shoes, high-cut trousers, cut-away jacket
hems expose the belt and often the shirt
- Shoes are slim, dark and in both classic and brogue styles
- Greased hair, spray-on tight trousers and shiny fabrics slither into
the limelight
Check
out the Checks
Traditional winter fabrics, such as heavy wools, which usually include
checks are taken to new extremes by the inclusion of fantasy chequered
garments.
- Suits, trousers, jumpers, shirts, ties and jackets all feature squares
- Business attire has more subdued checks
- Casual wear - coats covered in plaid, Courreges-style soft
squares, floral infused patterns
- There are no rules. In this trend the check is all important – the
construction of the garment takes second place.
