Catwalk classicism - more
about calmness than flash
THE OVERALL MOOD
There
are two schools of thought about ready-to-wear this season, firstly as
the world grows nervous about possible recessions we are seeing more
seriousness underpinning the Shows. As we move beyond ‘look at
me, look at me’, fashion today is more about calmness than flash.
The second prevailing theory is that we are fed up with the reality
of life so we seek fantasy and escapism in our garments. These two conflicting
ideals meet in what is being called ‘catwalk classicism’. Fashion
ad guru Sam Shahid put it best, “Things are timeless right now,
or you want them to be.”
KEY THEMES
There are 7 key themes for this season:
- Country Gents
- Undertakers

- Purple Please
- Got the Blues

KEY ITEMS
- Coat - a double-breasted purple cashmere

- Suit - three pieces, or more
- Grooming - polished is all the
rage - uber grooming is back
* Pea coats are characterized by broad lapels, double-breasted fronts,
often large wooden buttons, and vertical or slash pockets.
