Suits

The centerpiece of a man’s fashionable wardrobe is the modern, versatile suit. Look for a slimmer, vented jacket paired with a flat-front pant, which makes the look more modern. This season’s suit is cut a little closer to the body without sacrificing any comfort. Choose either a side or centre vented jacket with the now classic three-button or newer, high-stance two-button front.

Browns, olives, tans, caramels, and pronounced pinstripes are the colors and patterns of this season.

Now much more than a business essential, the suit is ideal for a night out, too, especially with the new “tieless” dress shirts. These new shirts are striped or checked with stronger colors, often with French cuffs. They can be worn with a suit and tie, open-collared without a tie tucked into dressy pants, or untucked with jeans with the sleeves rolled up.

Ties

The solid colour tie is still the most sophisticated look, but this season also offers some unusual colour combinations. You’ll see ties in stripes or large-spaced patterns in combinations like green/purple/orange or gold/green/blue.

Shirts

Sportshirts have become the cornerstone of modern casual dress. Fashion direction from such hip designers as Burberry, Ben Sherman and Robert Graham have created a phenomenon. The look is bold and colourful with a touch of 60’s “mod” thrown in. Pair them with jeans, linen pants, under sportcoats and even with suits for a sophisticated edge.

Sports Coats

Look for checks or plaids in brown tones. The classic navy blazer looks great with a white shirt or one with blue stripes. Pair your sport coat ensembles with slip-on shoes.

Sportswear

Fill out your sportswear looks with some of these:

  • bold striped shirts
  • colourful solid colour knits
  • soft coats to wear with dress pants or jeans
  • dressy casual pants in microfibre or linen
  • knit tops with high v-necks or crews
  • 1 or 3-button polos

Jeans have become an obsession. The 5-pocket staple is restyled and reenergized in every fabric, color and wash imaginable. Buy at least two new pairs this season. The new fabrics are from the best mills in the world. Distressed treatments are hand-applied and the “broken in” look reigns. What you wear with jeans is key. Vintage and collectible T’s are cool. So are bowling shirts, striped shirts, linen shirts, and mod prints. Remember: lighter jeans for day, darker washes for night. Pair them with the new sleek, colourful shoes with lighter soles. Opt for the biker and racecar driver inspirations.
