| FAQ - Frequently asked questions | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
As you probably wouldn't know me if you fell over me, it is often a worrying thought considering whether to commit both your money and your confidence in me on a workshop or a private consultation. Hopefully, these questions and answers may help allay some of your fears. If in doubt, though, give me a ring and see whether you like what you hear. The following refreshingly frank questions came from a lady in the UK who had previously had a less-than-fulfilling workshop with another image consultant and, subsequently, found me via this website: "I am interested in booking for full day workshops in Jan and Feb 2004. I recently had a taster of a course workshop with someone else and found it interesting but I was not impressed by the company/presenter. There are a couple of things I would like to know: 1) How many will be in a workshop? What are the max numbers you will take? - As I do not want to be a huge group that fills a hall! 2) I am not a twin set or suit person - I work for the Arts Council and I am and enjoy being quite smart casual, and a bit funky - but I also know I am not making the best of myself - hence the need for some help. I suppose what I am trying to ask is if you can let me know your general type of clientele? I do not want to be the only person wearing black pants in a room of suited and twin set ladies. I hope you don't think I am rude asking this but the last workshop leader I experienced was VERY straight and not really suiting my needs." These are my answers: 1) The courses are designed for a minimum of 6 with a maximum of around 24. From my point of view, a large group that fills a hall becomes a seminar with very little interaction - very unsatisfying for both myself and the attendees. I'll run those for a corporate environment but that is not what this is about. A workshop allows each person to receive individual attention, which is exactly why I run them this way - I want to be able to 'get my hands on' each lady individually. A minimum of 6 usually provides us with an example of each Season / Tone / Style type so you can physically see what I am talking about! 2) I must admit to being rather amused by your second question. I am definitely not a twin set person myself either but find there's usually an eclectic mix of Style personalities in the class. The only time I can see me addressing a room full of suited and twin set ladies is if I am booked specifically by the local Townswomen's Guild (and, yes, that has happened in the past). You might be interested to know that, on that occasion, several of them were dressing in this Classic style to 'conform to peer group' and we soon had a lively discussion about this. I had a lovely letter from one lady after the event saying how she finally felt free to wear what actually suited her at future Guild meetings and not to try to fit in! That, to me, seems to be the point of all this - to find out what really suits YOU and not to have to wear what you think you should. We start off each workshop by creating a check list of what YOU (the attendees) want. It is YOUR day, not mine, and I want to cover the subjects of interest to YOU. As for what to wear, if anyone turned up to a workshop wearing a bin bag, we'd still make them feel welcome - probably add a few accessories to make them feel more comfortable! - and then get started. 3) I certainly don't think this is rude of you at all. This is your money and time you are wanting to invest so it's important that you are comfortable with the whole thing. I can assure you that I am rather outrageous, and intend to have fun all day. My aim is to make the day as enjoyable and informative as possible. Just remember that if you don't like what you see, my 100% guarantee means that you can have all your money back at first coffee - so, you can't lose really." And the outcome? This lovely lady booked for the full-day Colour Confidence and Make-up course in January 2004 and this is what she had to say: "Thanks so much for Saturday - it has really helped to spark me up. I have to admit is was a bit confusing at times - like anything is when new and trying to get your head round a new concept - but I know I have come away with some better direction on colour - and what not to buy. Make -up and lipstick may take a bit longer but my partner said I looked fantastic - so it is worth pursuing. I aim to hit the shops this weekend for a good foundation, blusher, lipstick and eyeshadow - so wish me luck. As you know I can't make the February Style workshop due to family birthdays on the South coast. I would however like to take you up on your offer in March to do a one-to-one day with me instead. Once again thanks. On Sunday we went into Nottingham for lunch and it was so great looking into the shop windows and thinking that may be nice but it's not for me. I just know this is going to save me so much time and money!" The follow-up Style day had to wait as this lady was moving house: "I am just writing to confirm the June date. I'm really looking forward to it and need ideas on what should be doing for my wedding outfit. I want a really nice summer frock but advice on shapes, etc. would be good. If there is time I would really like a refresher on the make-up but only if there is time at the end of the day." And she was really pleased: "I have been looking great - mixing the strong colours and wearing things together that I would never have done without your help - and most importantly I have been feeling great and I have received about half a dozen compliments on how good I am looking - Hooray!!!! So thank you so much and I will keep you posted with my wedding day progress." I hope this gives you some idea of what I am all about My aim is to help you find the colours, styles, make-up, etc. that suit YOU, to suit your personality and your lifestyle. I'm afraid that we WILL have fun doing this, so only book to see me if you want to enjoy yourself. I want to see you make the most of yourself and perhaps move on to greater things (if you want to, of course). And, if I think it's appropriate for you personally, I will be encouraging you to step outside your comfort zone. After all, if the late Princess of Wales can wear purple and yellow together, so can you! I am looking forward to meeting YOU soon on one of the workshops.
